C-276 Hastelloy is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium-iron-tungsten nickel-based alloy, which is the most corrosion-resistant of modern metal materials. It is mainly resistant to wet chlorine, various oxidizing chlorides, chloride salt solutions, sulfuric acid and oxidizing salt, and has good corrosion resistance in low temperature and medium temperature hydrochloric acid. Therefore, in the past 30 years, in the harsh corrosive environment, such as chemical, petrochemical, flue gas desulfurization, pulp and paper, environmental protection and other industrial fields have a wide range of applications.

The various corrosion data of Hastelloy C-276 alloy is typical, but it cannot be used as a specification, especially in an unknown environment, and it must be tested before it can be selected. There is not enough Cr in Hastelloy C-276 alloy to resist corrosion in strong oxidizing environments, such as hot concentrated nitric acid. The production of this alloy is mainly for the chemical process environment, especially in the presence of mixed acid, such as the discharge pipe of flue gas desulfurization system.

The mechanical properties of Hastelloy are very prominent, it has the characteristics of high strength and high toughness, so there is a certain difficulty in machining, and its strain hardening tendency is extremely strong, when the deformation rate reaches 15%, about twice that of 18-8 stainless steel. Hastelloy also has a medium temperature sensitization zone, and its sensitization tendency increases with the increase of deformation rate. When the temperature is high, Hastelloy is easy to absorb harmful elements, which makes its mechanical properties and corrosion resistance decline.


Corrosion resistance

C276 alloys are suitable for a variety of chemical process industries containing oxidizing and reducing media. The high content of molybdenum and chromium make the alloy resistant to chloride ions, and the tungsten element further improves its corrosion resistance. C276 is one of the only materials that can resist the corrosion of humid chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide solutions, and the alloy has significant corrosion resistance to high concentrations of salt chloride solutions (such as ferric chloride and copper chloride).

C276 alloys are widely used in chemical and petrochemical fields, such as in components and catalytic systems that are exposed to chlorinated organics. This material is especially suitable for use in high temperature, inorganic and organic acids (such as formic acid and acetic acid) mixed with impurities, and seawater corrosion environment.
