Classification and application of hot rolled coil

Hot rolled coil is a kind of strip steel made from slab (mainly continuous casting billet), which is heated by heating furnace (or soaking furnace soaking) and rolled by roughing mill and finishing mill. This strip is cooled to a set temperature by laminar flow after the final finishing mill comes out, and then rolled into hot rolled strip by a coiler. The hot rolled coil comprises a steel strip (coil) and a steel plate cut from it.

Steel strip (coil) can be divided into straight coil and finished coil (split coil, flat coil and slitting coil). Hot rolled coil generally includes medium thickness wide steel strip, hot rolled thin wide steel strip and hot rolled sheet. Among them, the medium thick and wide steel strip is the most representative variety, and its output accounts for about two-thirds of the total output of hot rolled coil. The subject matter of the hot rolled coil futures contract listed on the Shanghai Futures Exchange belongs to the medium thick wide steel strip.

Medium thick wide steel strip refers to the steel strip whose thickness is ≥3 mm and < 20 mm and width is ≥600 mm, which is produced and delivered in roll form by continuous wide steel hot mill or furnace coil mill. The hot rolled thin and wide steel strip refers to the thickness < 3 mm, the width ≥600 mm, the continuous wide steel strip hot rolling mill or furnace rolling mill or thin slab continuous rolling and other equipment to produce, roll delivery of steel strip.

In addition, there is a type of steel called hot-rolled sheet, which refers to a single sheet of steel with a thickness of < 3 mm. This kind of steel plate is usually produced by continuous wide strip mill, thin slab continuous casting and rolling and other equipment, and delivered in plate form.

According to the different materials and properties, hot rolled coil can be divided into ordinary carbon structural steel, low alloy steel, alloy steel. According to the different uses, it can be divided into cold forming steel, structural steel, automotive structural steel, corrosion resistant structure steel, mechanical structure steel, welded gas cylinder and pressure vessel steel, pipeline steel and so on.

Because the hot rolled coil products have high strength, good toughness, easy processing and good weldability and other excellent properties, it is widely used in cold rolled substrate, ships, automobiles, Bridges, construction, machinery, oil pipelines, pressure vessels and other manufacturing industries.
