Hastelloy B-2 alloy introduction

Hastelloy B-2 alloy introduction

It is a nickel-based alloy, the main components of nickel, molybdenum, iron, chromium and other elements. It has good corrosion resistance, especially for some strong corrosive media such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and other excellent corrosion resistance, is a kind of high-performance materials widely used in chemical, petroleum, electronics and other fields. Compared with Hastelloy B alloy, the alloy has been improved in terms of some harmful elements (such as iron and chromium), thus improving its corrosion resistance and weldability.

The physical and chemical properties of Hastelloy B-2 (UNS N10665) alloy are as follows:

Density: 9.22 g/cm³

Melting point: 1330-1380℃

Thermal expansion coefficient: 11.1 × 10⁻⁶/℃ (20-100℃)

Thermal conductivity: 9.7W /m•K (20℃)

Tensile strength: 760 MPa (room temperature, annealed)

Yield strength: 325 MPa (room temperature, annealed)

Hardness: HB 220 (Max)

Chemical composition: Nickel (residual), molybdenum (28.0-32.0%), iron (2.0% Max.), chromium (1.0% Max.), cobalt (1.0% Max.), manganese (1.0% Max.), carbon (0.01% Max.), silicon (0.10% Max.), phosphorus (0.04% Max.), sulfur (0.03% Max.)

The alloy has good corrosion resistance, especially for strong corrosive media such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. In addition, it also has good oxidation resistance, reduction resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and other properties.

The alloy has good corrosion resistance in various chemical environments, including sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid and other corrosive media. Alloys are widely used in chemical industry, oil and gas processing, environmental protection engineering, pharmaceutical, food processing and other fields.

Due to their excellent corrosion resistance, alloys are widely used in the following applications:

1. Chemical processing equipment: such as chemical reactors, distillation towers, storage tanks, heat exchangers, etc.

2. Oil and gas processing: such as oil well drilling tools, pipelines, valves, pumps, etc.

3. Environmental protection projects: such as sewage treatment, waste gas treatment, dust removal equipment, etc.

4. Pharmaceutical and food processing: such as pharmaceutical reactors, food processing equipment, etc.

When applying alloys, it is necessary to pay attention to the processing and welding requirements of their materials to ensure that their good corrosion resistance is maintained. In addition, the processing and maintenance of alloys require special protective measures to avoid contact with other metal materials and produce electrochemical reactions.

Compared with other Hastelloy alloys, it has the following characteristics:

Acid resistance: Compared with Hastelloy C-276 and C-22, B-2 has better corrosion resistance in strong hydrofluoric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid.

Stress corrosion cracking resistance: Compared with B-2, it has better stress corrosion cracking resistance under some specific conditions.

Welding performance: B-2 has good heat-affected zone corrosion resistance during welding, and has better weldability compared with C-276 and C-22.

Antioxidant properties: B-2 has slightly less antioxidant properties at high temperatures than C-276, but can still be used in some high-temperature applications.

Therefore, it is widely used in chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical, aerospace and other fields, especially in concentrated sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid acidifier and other corrosive environment with excellent performance.
