Ferrous and non-ferrous metals

Share :

Also known as non-ferrous metals, refers to metals and alloys other than ferrous metals, such as copper, tin, lead, zinc, aluminum, brass, bronze, aluminum alloys and bearing alloys.

1. Ferrous metal

Iron and iron alloys. Such as steel, pig iron, ferroalloy, cast iron and so on. Steel and pig iron are alloys based on iron with carbon as the main additive element. They are collectively known as iron-carbon alloys.

Pig iron refers to the product made by smelting iron ore with blast furnaces, mainly used in steelmaking and manufacturing castings.

The cast pig iron is smelted in an ironmaking furnace to obtain cast iron (a liquid iron-carbon alloy with a carbon content greater than 2.11%) and the liquid cast iron is poured into the casting. This cast iron is called casting.

Ferroalloy is an alloy composed of iron and silicon, manganese, chromium, titanium and other elements. Ferroalloy is one of the raw materials for steelmaking. Used as steel deoxidizer and alloying element additive in steelmaking process.

Iron-carbon alloys with carbon content less than 2.11% are called steel. Steel is made by putting the pig iron used in steelmaking into a steelmaking furnace and melting it according to a certain process. Steel products include ingot, continuous casting billet and direct casting of various steel castings. Steel generally refers to steel rolled into various types of steel.

2. Non-ferrous metals.

Also known as non-ferrous metals, refers to metals and alloys other than ferrous metals, such as copper, tin, lead, zinc, aluminum, brass, bronze, aluminum alloys and bearing alloys. In addition, chromium, nickel, manganese, molybdenum, cobalt, vanadium, tungsten, titanium, etc., are also used in industry. These metals are mainly used as alloy additives to improve the properties of metals. Among them, tungsten, titanium, molybdenum and so on are mostly used in the production of cutting tools. It's cemented carbide. The above non-ferrous metals are called industrial metals, in addition to precious metals: platinum, gold, silver, etc. And rare metals, including radioactive uranium and radium.
